  • Mid Florida Eye Center was named ‘Best Ophthalmology Group Practice in Central Florida’, in the14th Annual Florida Medical Business Awards presented by Florida Medical Business.
  • Dr. Jeffrey Baumann is currently a Principal Investigator for a new astigmatism correcting intraocular lens implant (IOL), used in cataract surgery. Mid Florida Eye Center is just one of four Ophthalmology practices nationwide to participate in this eye care device study. 
  • Dr. Jeffrey Baumann, who is one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in the nation, was selected to be a  guest lecturer at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami School of Medicine. He discussed cataract and implant surgery with residents and fellows.
  • Mid Florida Eye Center has been named an advanced care teaching clinic, offering community-based education and training for 4th year optometry students from around the world.
  • Our ophthalmologists have participated in The National Eye Care Project, a public-service program sponsored by the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc.
  • Dr. Gregory Panzo was selected to introduce to the region several of the most sensitive methods of glaucoma detection available, including HVF and HRT.
  • Dr. Gregory Panzo also was selected to introduce advanced treatment options for glaucoma, including the Aquaflow and Optanol shunts to our community.
  • Dr. Ray Maizel’s participation in the Phase III Trial of Lucentis®, the FDA-approved medication for stabilizing vision in those with the wet form of macular degeneration, and Visudyne® photodynamic therapy, have given him additional measures of  knowledge and expertise in the treatment of this sight-stealing condition. This translates to better patient care. 
  • Dr. Stacia Goldey was the featured speaker at the 40th anniversary celebration of the University of Florida's College of Medical Ophthalmology.
  • Dr. Stacia Goldey is one of an elite group of physicians nationwide who has passed the stringent requirements to become a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
  • She was also named the only doctor in Lake, Sumter and Marion Counties whose practice has been designated a National Training Center by BOTOX manufacturer Allergan. She has been selected to teach Botox techniques to other physicians.
  • Dr. Keith Charles has been named a certified international LASIK instructor, and he has been the guest lecturer on LASIK at international symposiums of physicians.
  • Dr. Keith Charles was also selected to participate in an investigative LASIK study for nearsighted patients with or without astigmatism.
